What is Paintball?

Paintball is an exciting, social activity that involves a great deal of strategy and teamwork. It is fun for men and women, young and old, athletes and non-athletes, and people of all professions and lifestyles. Intelligence and determination, rather than strength, speed or agility are the keys to success in this sport.

The game is played on designated fields or private property, with the use of a marker (gun) and paint pellets. Players mark their opponents with colored paint pellets or a special type of ink on the front of their clothing and other gear. The game is typically organized and regulated by an organization or professional league. Play outside of a regulated area and without established safety protocols is called “renegade” or “gonzo” play, and players are known as renegade ballers or outlaws.

When a player is hit with a paintball, the impact commonly causes bruises and can break skin or cause bleeding. To decrease these risks, most commercial paintball venues require that players within a minimum distance of an opponent offer to surrender before shooting them.

When playing paintball, players should wear proper protective clothing and bring a mask, goggles, gloves, and close toe shoes. It is also a good idea to bring clothes that will allow for maneuverability, such as sweat pants and long sleeve shirts. If you are new to the game, it is a good idea to practice with your gun before getting out on the field, making sure it is aiming correctly and firing safely.
