Paintball is a team sport in which players use air-powered paintball markers to eliminate opponents. The sport is played on indoor or outdoor fields of varying sizes with natural terrain and artificial obstacles. Game types and goals vary but include capture the flag, elimination, defending/attacking a specific point or area, and capturing objects of interest concealed within the playing area.
Traditionally, a field was populated with natural obstacles such as trees, trenches and hills along with manmade obstacles such as wooden bunkers, barricades and fortresses. In recent times, the sport has been adapted for “scenario play” and other themed environments, often with additional elements such as vehicles and “armored” players (e.g., go-karts, pickup trucks, ATVs), which are used to move around on the field and can be protected from direct hits.
Top Strategies
A basic goal of paintball is to control as much territory on the field as possible, which can be done by being first to a favorable location or by quickly eliminating one or more opponents. This reduces the number of possible directions each player must watch for incoming paintballs, and the number of possible positions that the opposing team has to take to protect its teammates or capture a flag.
Generally, the best tactics involve effective communication between teammates and the use of hand signals. Other strategies include flanking, runners, and leap-frogging. It’s also a good idea to conserve your ammo so you don’t run out before the game is over!
