Paintball is a game played with a variety of rules and objectives. The game is characterized by players from two opposing teams eliminating each other by shooting “paintballs,” which are essentially capsules of non-toxic, biodegradable and water soluble dye encased in gelatin. The paintballs are launched from a compressed air powered gun, called a marker, that is worn by the players. The game is incredibly popular, with professional leagues established worldwide.
One of the basic goals is to control as much territory as possible on the field. To do this, players need to get behind cover quickly and be able to shoot opponents from several directions. This can be accomplished by taking advantage of natural terrain features and by limiting the number of other players an opponent has to face (which is why it is often best to split into teams of four).
In addition to this, good communication between team members is essential. This is especially important as the game progresses, when the red mist of the marker can make it difficult to hear each other. Simple, clear communication works best, such as identifying an opponent by their name and location or by a distinctive marking on their body. Also, making sure your teammates are aware of your location and the direction you are facing will make it easier for them to spot your shots. It is also a good idea to communicate what type of gun you are using so that they can be on the lookout for your markers.
